The Mental Suppository

Aug 19, 2021

The movie Heavy Metal turns 40 this year. For many of us we were too young to see the movie when it first came out. We discovered it later through the movie media boom of the 1990s. Directed by future Ghostbusters head honcho Ivan Reitman, it was an animated film based on the comic book anthology magazine of the same name. Most of the scenes in the movie were based on short stories originally published in the magazine tied together in this plot revolving around the sinister Loc-Nar. The film also featured the voices of John Candy, Eugene Levy, Harold Ramis and founder of National Lampoon Magazine co-founder Doug Kenny (who died a year before this movie was released).

In this episode, Bret, Jamie, Andrew, Wayne and guest Kevin Morgan discuss their memories of seeing the movie for the same time. As well as the soundtrack which is equally as memorable as the movie itself.

And no. Ralph Bakshi was not involved in the production of this film.
